Death Before Decaf by Caroline Fardig!! #WINNER

No spoilers!! But man that makes it a little more difficult because I really want to detail the book. I  hate when people do that to me, though so this review will refer to the characters as they are first introduced! Oh and this is a standalone novel!  No cliffhanger, but part of a series.

Death Before Decaf is a fast-paced, funny AND serious mystery.  How can it be funny and serious?  Easy when Caroline Fardig is behind the ink!  Caroline has an amazing ability to create characters that go through real life situations and some insanely dangerous ones without losing their sense of humor. I am a firm believer that if you keep your sense of humor you can overcome anything (even yourself!).
So Juliet was beaten down (emotionally) by her ex-fiancée when he stole her things, the money for their café and ultimately she had to close the café.  So here she has come back to her hometown and is going to run her best friends coffee shop.  He has been struggling with it ever since his father began having health issues and ultimately passing away. There is some definite undertones to Juliet and Pete’s relationship, but both have determined they are just friends. Being a romance lover I was ready to read the story of Pete and Juliet realizing their feelings and finally be together forever….that was before I even got through the first chapter and oh man the relationships are definitely a big part of the characters. but not the center of the story.

This is so great for the Suspense/Mystery lover in me! The twists and turns just kept on coming! This is not a girl who sat around and pondered who might have done it…she was right in the freaking middle of it!  I loved that Juliet was able poke holes in Seth’s story and figure him out (mostly), and he is stunned that she put those pieces together.  I also loved that these characters had flaws and were able to admit they were wrong. I have to stop there or I will spill too much!

When I pick up a Caroline Fardig book I know that I am going to laugh, bite my fingernails, and I am probably going to be reading it all in one sitting….Generally speaking I have a horrible time putting her books down because the action and events are constant and steady.  So far every book of hers I have read has turned out this way, so I suggest that when you see a new one coming, grab it as fast as you can and mark the release date on your calendar.  You probably won’t be doing anything else! LOL

Caroline Fardig is the author of Death Before Decaf and the Lizzie Hart series. She worked as a schoolteacher, church organist, insurance agent, funeral parlor associate, and stay-at-home mom before she realized that she wanted to be a writer when she grew up. Born and raised in a small town in Indiana, Fardig still lives in that same town with an understanding husband, two sweet kids, two energetic dogs, and one malevolent cat.

Wild Aces by Marni Mann….Do not miss this!! REVIEW

Trapper Montgomery

His darkness drew me in.

A mystery with a past I wanted to solve.

He was cold, like ice, but set me on fire.

A heat I hadn’t felt in ages.

But when I saw his face, I burned…

In mourning

Again.
Brea Bradley

She melted from my voice–shuddered from my touch.

But trembled from the memories

That my face brought back.

She wanted more…

Maybe even him.

I wasn’t the hand she counted on.

But I was what she was dealt…
A Wild Ace with no way to win.

My first foray into Marni Mann’s writing was reading Unblocked…seriously fantastic! More on that another time. Wild Aces was an intense story to be sure. Trapper and Brea are an AMAZING couple! They have both been through hell, albeit very different kids. Trapper grew up in hell and has really done something with himself – even though it’s not a traditional success story. He dedicated his life to keeping others from experiencing what he did and he is a special kind of hero.

Brea lost the love of her life – or so she thought. Hints of Brea’s past are given in Unblocked, but I was beyond thrilled to hear her entire storyline! She is such an amazing person and very real. I found myself making a deep connection with her because she reminds me so much of a close friend.

I can pretty well guarantee you have never read a story quite like this one and you will not be sorry you picked it up!

Oh.My.Goodness. Troublemaker by Liliana Hart – Need I Say More?? EXCEPTIONAL!

W.O.W. Those who know me, know not too many titles inspire that type of response from me, but Liliana Hart does. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. If you have never read one of her books, go check them out! The first book in each of her series is FREE! Aaaaaand they are standalone books! Really there is no reason not to! ☺️

Beckett and Marnie are an amazing pair of people. Beckett has lived a relatively privileged life, but was raised right. He works hard does what needs to be done. It is so rare to see that in people today!

Marnie was raised in hell. No other way to put it. The thing about a Liliana Hart book is that you cannot wait to see what happens, but you want more of everything. Even the bad stuff if it means you get to spend more time with the characters.

Liliana has an amazing ability to create characters that are real people. They are not glorified and made to be perfect, they are just people doing the best they can with what they have. The connections created between the characters is so powerful you can feel what they feel. I find myself able to relate to one of the main characters and dive into that world every single time. I half expect to be able to go to Surrender and visit them!

I also love that I don’t HAVE to have read the other books to enjoy any one of the novels. It is an awful lot of fun to read them in order, though and watch the characters grow and develop even farther.

*I was given an advanced copy for review.

Marnie Whitlock has never known what it’s like to be normal. Her ability to see the future and people’s innermost thoughts makes her an outcast—feared—loathed. Even by her own parents. And her father is determined to beat the curse out of her. Her only chance for survival is to escape Surrender.

Beckett Hamilton has loved Marnie since they were kids, but one horrible night destroyed any future he’d hoped for. Now Marnie was back in Surrender, and picking up where they left off is the only thing on his mind. He finds out quickly that some hearts take longer to heal, and not everyone that’s broken can be fixed. But loving Marnie isn’t an option—it’s his destiny.

Troublemaker releases February 16th! Preorder it now!!

Also please note that Troublemaker is part of a series but can be read as a standalone! Check out Liliana’s website (link below) to see more information on this series and her others (which are equally fabulous). Troublemaker is also part of a special project where Liliana had 5 other authors join in and tell a story inside the Mackenzie world!

TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM TROUBLEMAKER – Liliana Hart is a New York Times, USA Today, and Publisher’s Weekly Bestselling Author of more than 40 titles. After starting her first novel her freshman year of college, she immediately became addicted to writing and knew she’d found what she was meant to do with her life. She has no idea why she majored in music.

Since self-publishing in June of 2011, Liliana has sold more than 4 million ebooks and been translated into eight languages. She’s appeared at #1 on lists all over the world and all three of her series have appeared on the New York Times list. Liliana is a sought after speaker and she’s given keynote speeches and self-publishing workshops to standing-room-only crowds from California to New York to London.

Liliana can almost always be found at her computer writing or on the road giving workshops for SilverHart International, a company she founded with her husband, Scott Silverii, where they provide law enforcement, military, and fire resources for writers so they can write it right. Liliana is a recent transplant to Southern Louisiana, where she’s getting used to the humidity and hurricane season, and plotting murders (for her books, of course).

Hello World! Pumpkin Pie anyone?

There are some big changes coming! OK, OK … ANYthing is better than what I have given you over the last year! I have hopefully figured out and mapped out what I need to do in order to keep up with this and not get overwhelmed….I have been creating posts and scheduling them out so you will hopefully see a consistent stream of posts. Nothing crazy, just 2 a week. I am leaving plenty of room to throw out a publicity post if/when asked and I really hope you all enjoy some of the new content!

Keep reading to view the pumpkin pie recipe that is made EXACTLY how I LOVE it….thankfully lots of other people love it too!

I really do know, and hopefully people are still with me! So what do you have to look forward to? (BTW I so love Bitstrips and Bitmoji! They are so fun! Sorry I don’t have links but we have Apple products so I know they are available 😄)

  • Maybe, possibly some of my personal writing….that’s a bit scary to consider putting out there though!

Really I don’t want to leave anything off, but I still want this blog to reflect me. SO Instead of taking on WAAAAAAAAY too many authors that I love and trying to keep them all straight and get the links perfect and get everything out on time….I’m just gonna be me. Which is random, imperfect and biting off way more than I can chew. If we all understand that up front, hopefully you’ll still respect me in the morning. 😳😘😂

Now what you’ve all been waiting on pins and needles for:

PUMPKIN PIE

So, my recipe starts like any other and was actually adapted from the one on the Libby’s Pumpkin Pie Filling can. This recipe makes 2 of the 9 1/2 in deep dish pies. Here we go:

Crust: You are welcome to make your own crust if you prefer, but I have found I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Pillsbury

Filling

  • 2 regular cans of pumpkin pie filling – NOT spiced
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can evaporated milk

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Combine sugar, salt, cinnamon, ginger and cloves in small bowl. Beat eggs lightly in large bowl. Stir in pumpkin and sugar-spice mixture. Gradually stir in evaporated milk. Gradually stir in sweetened condensed milk. Pour into pie shell.

Bake for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees F.; bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until knife inserted near center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack for 2 hours. Serve immediately or refrigerate. (Do not freeze as this will cause the crust to separate from the filling.)

THANK YOU ALL! I love you!!
